CONCERNING HONORING THE ANSCHUTZ FOUNDATION. WHEREAS, The University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the University of Colorado Hospital are moving to the Fitzsimons campus; and WHEREAS, An independent study by the Urban Land Institute found that the move to Fitzsimons by the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the University of Colorado Hospital provides a tremendous opportunity to create the preeminent medical, research, and educational facility in the Rocky Mountain Region, and the nation; and WHEREAS, The Urban Land Institute also advised the University of Colorado Health Sciences Center and the University of Colorado Hospital to accelerate the Fitzsimons project; and WHEREAS, On January 10, 2000, The Anschutz Foundation gave a $25 million gift to the University of Colorado Hospital to assist in the construction of The Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine at the new Fitzsimons campus. The Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine consists of two buildings: The Anschutz Outpatient Pavilion housing the specialty clinics and The Anschutz Cancer Pavilion housing the University of Colorado Cancer Center; and WHEREAS, On February 27, 2001, The Anschutz Foundation gave an additional gift of $30 million to the University of Colorado Hospital which will be used to assist in building the University of Colorado Hospital's Inpatient Pavilion at the Fitzsimons campus to be known as The Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion; and WHEREAS, The total gift from The Anschutz Foundation of $55 million ranks among the largest private gifts ever received by a hospital in this country; and WHEREAS, The continued generosity of The Anschutz Foundation may serve as a catalyst for continued private funding for the University of Colorado Hospital; and WHEREAS, The Anschutz Foundation gift will complete the original concept of The Anschutz Centers for Advanced Medicine; and WHEREAS, With The Anschutz Foundation's gift the University of Colorado Hospital will be able to accelerate and expand the planned first phase of the hospital's Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion; and WHEREAS, The generous gifts received from The Anschutz Foundation will have a profound impact on the hospital's ability to meet its missions of patient care, education, and research at Fitzsimons; and WHEREAS, The Anschutz Inpatient Pavilion and the Fitzsimons campus will provide services to all of Colorado, the surrounding states, and the nation; now, therefore, Be It Resolved by the Senate of the Sixty-third General Assembly of the State of Colorado, the House of Representatives concurring herein: That it is fitting that the General Assembly honor The Anschutz Foundation and express its profound gratitude for its generous gifts to the University of Colorado Hospital and its continued charitable acts on behalf of the citizens of the state of Colorado. Be it Further Resolved, That copies of this Senate Joint Resolution be sent to Philip F.
