SENATOR BRUCE CAIRNS January 30, 2004 303-866-3432 Contact: Kelley Harp 303-866-3344 COLORADO STATE SENATE STATE CAPITOL DENVER 80203 MEDIA ADVISORY TO: Members of the Media FROM: Senate Majority Communications WHAT: Senate Bill 1 in Committee WHEN: Monday, Feb. 2, 1:30 p.m. WHERE: Senate State Affairs Committee, Room 353 DENVER -- State Sen. Bruce Cairns wants to eliminate the job-killing business personal property tax and create a more business-friendly environment in Colorado. The Aurora Republican is carrying Senate Bill 1, which will phase out the business personal property tax by reducing it the first year by 25 percent. The tax will then be reduced an additional 5 percent annually until eliminated. "The tax on equipment is really a tax on jobs," Cairns said. "The business personal property tax is hard on all businesses and scares away companies looking to relocate to Colorado," Cairns said. "Eliminating this tax is one way to put our constituents back to work in this tight economy. Additionally, I want to see small and medium sized local businesses to expand equipment and hire." The bill is scheduled for its first test Monday in the Senate State Affairs Committee. State Sen. Bruce Cairns represents Senate District 28 which includes South Aurora and portions of Arapahoe County. Cairns is Chairman of the Local Government Committee, and serves on the State, Veterans and Military Affairs Committee and the Capitol Development Committee. His address is State Capitol, 200 East Colfax, Denver, CO 80203. -30- |
