SENATOR BRUCE CAIRNS Feb. 8, 2002 303-866-3432 303-693-6089 Contact: Darin Goens 303-866-2195 COLORADO STATE SENATE STATE CAPITOL DENVER 80203 PUBLIC INFORMATION ANNOUNCEMENT Denver -- State Sen. Bruce Cairns, R-Aurora, Senator Bruce Cairns is sponsoring Senate Bill 163, which addresses "educational choice." It makes it possible for families to earn a property tax credit equal to the amount of their voluntary contribution to an organization that provides scholarships or grants to children to allow them to attend any independent or parochial school of their choice. Sen. Cairns stated, "it enhances our ability to make the right choice for our childrens' educations. Most importantly, it supports parental choice to move from a failing school to a better academic situation or a school more in line with the families' philosophies." The bill will be discussed before the Senate Education Committee this Tuesday, February 12, 2002, at the Capitol in room SR354, mid-afternoon. Senator Cairns wants to remind citizens interested in educational choice for their kids that they can come and watch the committee or sign up and testify before the committee. Senator Bruce Cairns represents Senate District 28 which includes the city of Aurora and portions of Arapahoe County. Cairns serves on the Senate Education Committee. -30- |
